4sfera, as member of the European Topic Centre on Human Health and the Environment (ETC HE), supports the European Environment Agency (EEA) by ensuring the continuous flow and quality of provisional up-to-date (UTD) air quality data reported through dataflow E2a.
The challenge
The EEA relies on timely and accurate UTD air quality data from Member States and other European countries to calculate the European Air Quality Index (AQI) and provide timely information to the public. Ensuring continuous data delivery, resolving reporting issues, and maintaining data quality are essential to support public health and policy decisions.
The solution
4sfera has been responsible for the continuous monitoring and quality checking of UTD data reporting through dataflow E2a since 2010. Our contribution includes:
- Continuous helpdesk support to authorities, assisting with dataflow E2a reporting and resolving technical issues, such as XML validation errors or data consistency problems.
- Daily monitoring of reporting status to detect persistent dropouts or gaps in data submission. Unresolved issues are escalated to the EEA project manager when necessary.
- Verification of data imports into EEA systems, ensuring statistics and the AQI are accurate and up to date.
The result
- Reliable and continuous UTD data reporting, enabling timely updates of the Air Quality Index and real-time air quality information.
- Identification and resolution of data issues, ensuring complete and accurate datasets for the EEA and the public.
- Strengthened collaboration with Member States, improving data quality and supporting compliance with EEA reporting standards.
- Yearly summaries on European AQ Status report produced for EEA
By ensuring the continuous quality control of UTD data, 4sfera helps maintain the integrity and accuracy of the information used for real-time public communication and policy development.
